Divisive shock rock icon Marilyn Manson recently gave a live debut to a late 90s addition to his catalog, “Long Hard Road Out Of Hell“. That cut was originally released back in 1997 via a collaboration with trip hop outfit Sneaker Pimps. It first emerged as part of the gold-certified soundtrack to the 1997 film adaptation of the ‘Spawn‘ comic book series.
That soundtrack, “Spawn: The Album“, was a spiritual successor of sorts to the ‘Judgement Night‘ soundtrack before it. However, rather than exclusively pairing rap and metal/rock acts, “Spawn: The Album” instead united bands with metal, industrial, nü-metal, etc. backgrounds with artists from the trip hop, big beat and dance music scenes.
This past Friday, May 02nd, saw Manson finally give that song its first live performance to date during a headlining stop at GLC Live At 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids, MI. While only now making it into the setlist decades after its release, the title of the song may be more familiar to some via Manson‘s literary pursuits, having also been adopted for his 1998 autobiography.
This past Friday’s aforementioned tour opener also saw the live debut of “Sacrilegious” from Manson‘s comeback album “One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1“, and the first live performance of “Get Your Gunn” since 2014. The full setlist for that show ran as follows:
“Nod If You Understand”
“Disposable Teens”
“Get Your Gunn” (first performance since August of 2014)
“Tourniquet”
“Meet Me In Purgatory”
“This Is The New Shit”
