Before finding fame in pop music, Halsey apparently spent time as a promoter in the New Jersey hardcore and metalcore scene. Per the below video of a fan meet and greet, the diamond-certified 30-year-old singer, songwriter and actress went on to express her admiration for hardcore music in general, stating “I super fuck with hardcore.” She then went on offer:
“I used to promote hardcore shows. In Jersey before I started making music. I did a lot of hardcore, but then also some of the more commercial hardcore. The biggest show I ever booked, I was 16, was like August Burns Red and The Devil Wears Prada.”
She further went on state that the quote she chose for her high school yearbook was a lyric from Boston, MA melodic hardcore band Defeater. Halsey‘s love of heavier music hasn’t exactly been a secret over the years. In 2019, the star paid tribute to shock rocker Marilyn Manson with a rather large tattoo on her side. Later that year, Halsey went so far to dress up as Manson for Halloween.
Since then, collaborations with with alternative metal stars Bring Me The Horizon and an entire album produced by industrial rock icons Nine Inch Nails‘ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have emerged.
More recently, Halsey went so far as to recreate the cover for Evanescence‘s diamond-certified 2000 album “Fallen“ in the leadup to the October 31st release of the latest Halsey album, “The Great Impersonator“.
