Swedish alternative metal band Avatar have released a newly re-recorded piano version of their song “Tower“. The original version of that track appeared on the group’s fifth studio album, 2014’s “Hail The Apocalypse“.
This new version of the song is of particular relevance to Avatar at the moment, as the group are currently in a legal battle to reclaim the rights to that aforementioned album from the Sony Music Entertainment owned Fifth Island Music, formerly known as Gain Records. According to a press release, Avatar, “have neither ownership nor receives any royalties on Hail the Apocalypse, or any preceding albums, since 2015.’
Business reasons aside, the band’s vocalist Johannes Eckerström also weighed in on revisiting this track, offering:
“This version of ‘Tower‘ became a special moment in a very special period of our lives. It feels natural to use it as a way to stop and look back for just a moment before we move forward with full force. It’s a thank you to everyone who stands by our side and makes the magic happen.”
Outside of their catalog woes, Avatar are slated to enter the studio in January to begin tracking their tenth studio album with Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Stone Sour) once again overseeing the production duties. A 2025 release is planned through their own Black Waltz Records.
