While primarily known these days as the vocalist/guitarist for his group Mammoth WVH, the multi-talented Wolfgang Van Halen is also no slouch behind the drum kit. Of course none of this is surprising, given the fact that his father is late Van Halen guitar great Eddie Van Halen, and his uncle is that band’s drummer, Alex Van Halen.
Knowing full well what he’s capable of, Drumeo recently put Wolfgang‘s percussive chops to the test in challenging him to come up with the drum parts on the spot for a song he’d never heard before, “Youngblood“, the 6x multi-platinum single by Australian pop rockers 5 Seconds Of Summer.
If you’re unfamiliar with the series, the catch is that the participant is introduced to the song via a version that is stripped of the drum tracks, leaving them a blank slate to create their own part. In a bit of synergy, 5 Seconds Of Summer‘s own drummer Ashton Irwin gets in on the fun, himself also being a past guest on Drumeo.
