Television host, comedian, writer, etc. Conan O’Brien recently tried his hand fronting Austrian metal band Cringe Blizzard. Outside of some inspired booking of musical performers during his past late night talk show run, O’Brien isn’t exactly known for his forays into metal. However earlier this year, he did get schooled in the genre of metalcore.
O’Brien was also somewhat familiar with his new musical cohorts in Cringe Blizzard and their brand of ‘slush metal’. This past September saw the O’Brien welcome that band’s vocalist Katherina on his ‘Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend‘ podcast.
During that episode, O’Brien suggested that she could teach him how to sing metal vocals so he could potentially be “a guest vocalist for Cringe Blizzard.” Katherina was receptive to the idea, stating “f*cking hell yeah!”, before going on to offer up some basic lessons.
The nature of O’Brien‘s time onstage with the band wasn’t expressly specified, but the below hashtags shared by O’Brien indicate it was filmed for the next season of his latest travel show, ‘Conan O’Brien Must Go‘. Speaking of the pairing via their social media today, December 05th, Cringe Blizzard offered:
“Best gig ever!
Thanks to @teamcoco and his CREW @tintagency
Big thanks to @gallowhead777 for supporting us
lots of love to @okfk.feldkirch & @hugopansen for making all of this possible!!!
Also thanks to everyone who came to see us <3 This was the best and only day of true happiness for our vocalist, kaddl. In this very location, she celebrated her wedding and barely cried as much as she did tonight!! Thank you all for coming, and keep crankin' up da Cringe, duuuude"
O’Brien also posted about the team up on his own social media, offering: “Just got a hernia singing with a metal band in Feldkirch, Austria.” -Conan #CringeBlizzard #ConanOBrienMustGo”
