Television host/comedian/writer, etc. Conan O’Brien got a firsthand experience with metalcore of sorts thanks to his recent guest Anthony Giacalone. The latter appeared on a newly shared episode of O’Brien‘s ‘Conan Needs A Friend‘ podcast.
In addition to his pursuits as a phlebotomist, Giacalone serves as the screaming vocalist for Canadian metalcore band Among The Rest. As such, O’Brien invited Giacalone to show off his chops on the show. Unfortunately some technical issues with Zoom presented a few wrinkles with the live broadcast.
Regardless, O’Brien was still game for the experience and helped plug the band. Upon being told by his co-host Sona Movsesian that he’d make a good metalcore vocalist, O’Brien joked of his own talents, “I’m a good screamer, and I’m a very dynamic presence onstage. And I do think that Satan resides within me.”
You can hear all that transpire starting around 09:00 in. Given the numerous metal musical guests that rolled through the doors of O’Brien‘s past late night talk show (Slipknot, System Of A Down, Deftones, etc.) over the years, it’s a safe bet that 61-year-old is no stranger to heavier music.
