The 25th anniversary of Cave In‘s big leap into the stratosphere, “Jupiter“, will be celebrated in the new year with an expanded release on 3-LP boxset, 2-CD set and cassette formats. Newly remastered by James Plotkin, that adventurous album found the group diving headfirst into the realm of progressive space rock — a decision that proved controversial at the time given their abrasive metalcore roots.
In addition to the album itself, this 25th anniversary edition will also feature an October 2000 live set the band performed for Boston’s WBCN radio session. Demo tracks from the album’s early sessions and more will also be featured. Outside of this retrospective release, the band will also be performing the album in full for the first time at next year’s ‘Roadburn‘ festival. That event will be held April 17th-20th in Tilburg, NET.

“Sometime in the late 90’s, I had a seed of an idea: to make a record called Jupiter – the largest planet in our solar system, but also a failed star. The combination of those things was ripe with inspiration. Plus the combination of individuals in our band had crystallized to form a new pathway forward, and down that path we went – loud and proud!
Fast forward 25 years and Relapse has truly outdone themselves with an incredible reissue that fully encapsulates our cosmic youth, proving yet again their unparalleled mastery in the game of heavy music preservation.
