Rumors of the 2025 edition of the annual ‘Sick New World‘ festival have been swirling as of late, with rumblings of the festival either being postponed or canceled in the new year. Trevor Dunn, bassist of Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk and more, recently let that slip in an interview with The Vinyl Guide.
As reported by Blunt, while Dunn‘s comments appear to have since been edited out of the episode, Dunn, who was booked to play the fest with Tomahawk, opened up about the apparent fate of the fest, stating:
“I’m probably not supposed to talk about this, but it’s not happening. It’ll come out in the wash soon, but basically, the festival [‘Sick New World‘] is not happening. We had a whole tour, we had a two-week thing built around that, which we can’t do now because financially it doesn’t make any sense, so yeah, that’s not happening.”
When asked further if the festival was over, he replied, “I believe so.” When further pressed if a final decision may yet have been made, he replied, “No, I think they have. I erased it from my calendar, so I’m not going.”
There have been some rumors circulating among the industry of late about issues of a budgeting nature with the annual Las Vegas festival. However, as it stands, no official announcement has been made. The lineup for next year’s fest was announced last month with Metallica, Queens Of The Stone Age, a reunited Acid Bath and more all booked to take part.
Update: November 29th, 2024 01:22pm:
The 2025 ‘Sick New World‘ festival has now officially been canceled.
