Maynard James Keenan, vocalist of Tool, A Perfect Circle & Puscifer, may have found yet another avenue to generate some income from selling his art. The 60-year-old musician already has an abundance of business ventures on the go, including his vineyard & winery, along with several recently overhauled brick and mortar businesses which he oversees alongside his wife, Jennifer Lei Keenan. More recently, he’s also been pursuing his own brand and blends of coffee, with future ventures into making gin and chocolate in the cards as well.
However, several weeks ago, he rediscovered his passion for charcoal drawings, showing off his first sketches in roughly 35 years. He’s since shared another assortment of sketches (see below) which he created under self-imposed time limits of ten minutes or less minutes. Given the cultlike following Tool — and subsequently Keenan — command, it should be no surprise that his artwork has generated considerable interest.
Now it would seem he’s exploring options to make that artwork available to the masses, be it putting up prints of it up for sale, or simply planning to hang some pieces on the walls of his businesses.
Either way, in the below newly shared video, Keenan showed off some test prints of his artwork that he has been experimenting with on different paper stocks. Per the post, it would seem that these test prints aren’t exclusive to his latest output either. As Keenan put it:
“Doing some test prints on various paper styles. Lots of puzzle pieces to solve. Some of these are new, some are circa 1986. #fineartprints #charcoal #charcoaldrawing”
Not that he’s made any mention of it, but there’s some synergy here that the infamously busy Keenan could also capitalize on. Vine charcoal is crafted from specially burnt grape vines — something he likely has in abundance given his other endeavors.
