Buffalo, NY-based metalcore band It Dies Today have parted ways with drummer Nick Mirusso, replacing him with John Runkle (CrushCrushCrush, ex-ARIA). Mirusso had sat behind the kit for It Dies Today since 2002. A statement issued by the band yesterday, September 02nd, reads:
“Hey all, we wanted to provide an update as you’ve been seeing a new face with us recently. We wanted to extend our love to our boy Nick Mirusso. We have decided to mutually part ways as we start to ramp back up. Nick has been an integral part of this band for over two decades, providing a drum style that helped catapult us to success. As with life, things get in the way, and we have nothing but love and admiration for our brother as he takes this time to spend with family.
With that being said, please welcome our brother John Runkle to fill the role on drums, and you will hear it with the release of Son of Dawn, Brilliant Star. John is one of our best friends, and has been apart of our crew for 15+ years. Many of you have probably seen him play with us, as he’s been Mirusso‘s fill in for shows, tour, and otherwise. John has been instrumental in the return of
this band, has been part of the writing process of these new songs, and we know you’ll love what he’s bringing to the table.-IDT”
Runkle also commented of his now permanent role, stating:
“I will never be able to fill the shoes of Nick Mirusso.
Nick is someone I have looked up to and respected since I was 12 years old.
I love you, brother.
Thank you for trusting me. I won’t let you down.”
As mentioned in the band’s statement, Runkle‘s talents will be featured on the upcoming newly finished version of the track “Son Of Dawn, Brilliant Star“. A demo of that song has been floating around since 2014. This finalized take on it is scheduled to debut on September 13th.
