Hoobastank’s “The Reason” Has Hit 1 Billion Plays On Spotify

The title track to Hoobastank‘s 2x multi-platinum album “The Reason” has just notched up another 1 billion plays for the nü-metal/alt-rock outfit. That song, which was originally released back in 2003, has already secured itself 4x multi-platinum status and joined the 1 billion views club on YouTube in August of last year. Now the track has also achieved the 1 billion plays milestone on digital service provider Spotify.

Guitarist Dan Estrin commented of this latest achievement for the song:

“What an amazing moment. Creating something with your childhood best friends and then watching it grow into an out of control wild fire has been absolutely surreal. None of us ever expected this and at times it feels like a dream. Knowing how much ‘The Reason‘ means to so many people in the world is an indescribable, proud emotional feeling. I am way beyond grateful and realize how fortunate we are. We have played it all over the world. And to see everyone’s faces while they sing along is priceless. Thank you world.”

Vocalist Doug Robb added:

“A billion is cool but a trillion would be awesome! All joking aside, I feel amazed and astonished at how much life the song has had and continues to have. It’s so cool that it has now been woven into a whole new generation’s music taste. Let’s go for another billion!”

While “The Reason” has remained a solid performer over the years, last year’s 20th anniversary celebration of the album, as well as a placement of the single on Netflix‘s ‘Beef‘ and some viral success on TikTok have helped boost the numbers across the past year or two.

In light of the continued success of the single and album, the band have joined with “The Reason” producer Howard Benson for a track by track breakdown of the outing. That weekly series has just begun with the first episode available below.
