Apocalyptica Release Their Cover Of Metallica’s “One” Featuring James Hetfield & Robert Trujillo

Apocalyptica have dropped the below cover of Metallica‘s “One” as the third single from their second tribute to catalog of the aforementioned thrash metal legends. The string-driven symphonic metal outfit are joined by none other than Metallica‘s vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield and bassist/vocalist Robert Trujillo on this rendition, which will appear on “Apocalyptica Plays Metallica, Vol. 2“.

That nine-song tribute will be out on June 07th. It also finds Trujillo guesting on the previously released rendition of “The Four Horsemen“. Acclaimed thrash metal drummer Dave Lombardo (Mr. Bungle, ex-Slayer, etc.) will also guest on that record, appearing the included take on “Blackened“.

Apocalyptica‘s rhythm cellist Eicca Toppinen offered:

“I think it’s incredible that James wanted to do it. We were always thinking, it’d be great to someday do something with Metallica!’ I think the excitement for him came from the different approach we were taking – sometimes the craziest ideas are what excites people and that was our challenge.”

Lead cellist, etc. Perttu Kivilaakso added:

“We used everything at our disposal to make it as bombastic as possible. It had to be epic! The result was truly cinematic, with James Hetfield narrating the story with those poetic lyrics. It was powerful and touching. As a fan I have to say it was unbelievable to finally hear it. I was in my home crying. My hands were shaking. It was an incredible journey.”
