Apocalyptica Recruit Rob Trujillo For Their Latest Metallica Cover

Apocalyptica are ready to pickup where they left off with their 1996 tribute to the mighty Metallica. The Finnish symphonic metal band are readying “Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2” for a June 07th release through Throwdown Entertainment.

Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age) was tasked with producing that outing. Thus far Metallica‘s own bassist/vocalist Robert Trujillo has been announced for the record,  with further guests pending. Trujillo appears on the lead single, a cover of the “Kill ‘Em All” cut “The Four Horsemen“.

Apocalyptica‘s Eicca Toppinen commented:

“It’s the coolest thing. We didn’t push – it was offered. We played the first album live and it was so much more fun and exciting than we expected, so we got the idea to do something like the first album, but we couldn’t do it in exactly the same way – we needed to challenge ourselves and bring a totally new perspective to the original energy and emotion of Metallica.”

Perttu Kivilaakso added:

“We’ve been talking about making another Metallica album for around 20 years, as there were still so many great songs we wanted to play! We waited for the perfect moment to do it. Thinking of that teenage me who is now getting to play his favorite tracks gives me goosebumps!”

Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2” stands as the final Apocalyptica release with drummer Mikko Sirén, who has since exited the fold. The band commented on his departure yesterday, February 22nd:

“Some of you may have already seen us playing without our drummer Mikko Siren in Brasil and Mexico earlier this year…or have heard rumors to this effect. We are very sorry to have to inform you that we have amicably parted ways with Mikko after 20 years. Recording our forthcoming album was our last collective achievement. Also, we want to reassure all of you that we – Eicca, Perttu and Paavo – will continue as Apocalyptica. We wish Mikko happiness and success in everything he aims for in all his future endeavors!!”
