Deafheaven have plans to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their breakthrough album “Sunbather” this year. In celebration of the milestone, the band have had the album’s original producer Jack Shirley re-mix and remaster the record, which will also now be made available in spatial audio.
A deluxe color vinyl variant pressing run and updated artwork and more will also be featured, with Deathwish Inc. aiming to have the effort out on November 17th (pre-order.) You can have a listen to the sonically updated version of “Vertigo” from that album in advance below.
Reflecting on the success of the “Sunbather“, guitarist Kerry McCoy offered:
“The easy answer was it was totally positive and overwhelming. But in actuality it was also kind of frustrating. We were grateful for the positive notes, but there were people who thought we were the worst thing to ever happen to metal and others who thought that we claimed to invent the genre. Neither were true.”
He continued:
“Honestly, Sunbather gave us a career. Before then we were working jobs and had these grandiose dreams, but that was the record that turned us into a real band. Because of that record, we ended up meeting a lot of people around the world that changed our lives and set us on the path we’re on now.”
