In case the past year or so of nü-metal’s resurgence wasn’t enough of an indicator for you, it’s now being reported that interest in the once maligned genre has hit a new peak. The Twitter account crazy ass moments in nu metal history recently shared the below graph from Google Trends, charting out the growing interest in searches on the genre in the United State.
The data in question only goes as far back as 2004, which admittedly was already after the tides had begun to turn against nü-metal following it’s late 90s/early 2000s peak. By 2004, the New Wave Of American Heavy Metal movement had already begun to take hold alongside the metalcore movement that would go on to establish a new crop of scene stars, including Lamb Of God, Killswitch Engage and many more.
In a fittingly timed throwback to nü-metal’s heyday, next month will see the first-ever ‘Sick New World‘ festival take place at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds in Las Vegas, NV on May 13th. That event will feature a veritable who’s who of the nü-metal movement, including System Of A Down, Korn, Deftones, Incubus, Evanescence, Papa Roach, Coal Chamber and many more.
As further evidence of nü-metal’s upswing, that event’s 60,000 tickets sold out mere days after being announced.
