While currently available digitally, pre-orders for the vinyl edition of this new version of the album are available here. Vocalist/guitarist Dustin Kensrue said of the decision to revisit one of their most pivotal releases:

“The question has to be asked: Why would we re-record a 20 year old album, let alone one that is widely beloved and arguably our most well-known. I think the core of the answer is that it simply sounded fun and we were curious.

We know that playing the revisionist is a dangerous game, so we were always a little uneasy about trying to go back and mess with something that people loved, people who had none of the hangups about the record that we did. But, since we decided to do this anyway, we tried to let that wariness guide us in how we approached the record, and in the end we decided to make very minimal structural changes.

At the end of the day, what we wanted the record to sound like for fans is that somehow one of their old favorite records got a new lease on life, but that it hadn’t lost its soul or turned into something else. We hope you enjoy revisiting The Artist In the Ambulance.”

Arriving in tandem with this revised album is the announcement of a U.S. leg of the band’s 20th anniversary tour in support of the record. That trek will find them performing it in full nightly, with Holy Fawn serving as direct support. Pre-sale tickets available now at The general onsale will follow this Friday, February 03rd at 09:00pm PDT / 12:00pm EDT.

Kensrue said of that upcoming tour:

The Artist In The Ambulance has played such a huge part in the history of the band. These songs have stood the test of time better than we could have known when we wrote them. But they’ve also subtly shifted and grown with us as we’ve played them at shows over the last 20 years, which is why it was so much fun to revisit them in the studio, and also why we are so excited to play the whole record live, especially for the first time in its entirety.”
