Update: November 20th, 2022 08:29 PM:
Trent Reznor has followed through on his plans to leave Twitter, having officially deactivated his personal account on the platform today, November 20th. Reznor had accrued some 1.6 million followers on the social media platform prior to apparently deleting his account. The official Twitter account for his multi-platinum industrial metal band Nine Inch Nails remains active on the platform.
Original Story:
Trent Reznor, the longtime mastermind behind the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame-inducted industrial metal pioneers Nine Inch Nails, has shared his current thoughts on the state of social media platform, Twitter. Reznor has often been quick to embrace emergent technology over the years, but it would appear he isn’t entirely onboard with what Elon Musk has cooking up for the service.
Amid a turbulent few weeks of mass layoffs and resignations and controversial unbannings on the microblogging site, Musk has radically begun to reshape the status quo of the social media powerhouse since coming into ownership of it in late October.
Reznor, who has long maintained a presence on the platform via both a personal account and one for Nine Inch Nails, recently shared his opinion on that and the service in general to The Hollywood Reporter, offering:
“I’m about to depart. We don’t need the arrogance of the billionaire class to feel like they can just come in and solve everything. Even without him involved, I just find that it has become such a toxic environment. For my mental health, I need to tune out. I don’t feel good being there anymore.”
Reznor himself boasts 1.6 million followers on Musk‘s latest acquisition, but has largely refrained from personal discussion, instead mainly using it to promote his various projects.
