Loudwire caught up with several artists at the ‘Louder Than Life‘ festival in Louisville, KY this past September and asked them which song they are most proud of writing. Randy Blythe, vocalist of Richmond groove metal juggernauts Lamb Of God was one of the musicians asked and revealed his choice to be “King Me” from the band’s 2012 outing, “Resolution“.
He commented of it:
“That song is about me opening my eyes as I became sober and trying not to be such a self-centered prick. And I think the lyrics are beautiful too.”
Lajon Witherspoon, frontman for gold-certified alternative metal band Sevendust, was asked the same question as well and decided upon the track “Shine“. That song appeared on the group’s 2001 album “Animosity” and Witherspoon said of it:
“[I wrote it] about my little brother that passed… who was killed. I wish he was able to be here, alive, to be with me and to see what we’ve done.”
Clutch vocalist/guitarist Neil Fallon offered up:
“Probably “Big News I“, because I knew it was going to be received very positively or very negatively. That’s usually a good move, and that’s exactly what happened. [At the time] our sound was very much more rooted in straight ahead unswung aggression and ‘Big News I” was a massive swing and suddenly it became a lot easier to write lyrics.”
You can watch them all discuss their choices, along with word from Mastodon, In Flames, Tetrarch, Wargasm and more.
