With the September 02nd release of their sixteenth studio album “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!” looming, legendary Los Angeles, CA thrash metal band Megadeth have found themselves on the receiving end of three new gold/platinum single certifications from the RIAA in the United States.
“Symphony Of Destruction“, the lead single from the GRAMMY Award-winning band’s 1992 2x multi-platinum album “Countdown To Extinction“, was certified both gold and platinum on August 22nd. That album celebrated its 30th anniversary on July 14th.
Also newly certified Gold on that aforementioned date were “Peace Sells“, the titular track to the group’s platinum-selling 1986 sophomore album “Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?“, and “Holy Wars… The Punishment Due“, the lead single from from the band’s platinum-selling 1990 album, “Rust In Peace“.
A platinum album/single in the United States represents 1,000,000 units, while gold signifies 500,000 units. Outside of traditional physical/digital sales, the certifications factor in digital streams/downloads with 10 permanent track downloads counting as 1 unit and 1500 on-demand audio/video streams from a particular album also counting as as a unit.
