Megadeth vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine has officially confirmed the identity of the bassist who played on the legendary thrash metal band’s forthcoming sixteenth studio album, “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!“. In a newly aired interview today (March 31st) with Jose Mangin of SiriusXM‘s ‘Liquid Metal‘, Mustaine revealed the long-suspected news that Steve Di Giorgio of Testament fame took on the bass duties on the record.
Speaking on that, Mustaine offered:
“It was a good choice. I didn’t think about anybody else at the time. I was thinking about ‘who’s the hottest guy out there that can play these new songs?’ Justice [Dave‘s son] told me one of the fastest songs we’ve ever written is on this record. I don’t care what anybody says – bass may be less strings than guitar, but it’s difficult to play if you’re like me. I have a real hard time playing the bass. I wrote the riff for ‘Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?‘ for Pete’s sake, but you know… having to jam some of those parts that fast, it just kills your fingers.”
Mustaine made the decision to scrap the previously recorded bass tracks of David Ellefson on the album after Ellefson was let go from the band. His dismissal came about as the result of several videos of him sexually pleasuring himself in online video chats were leaked to the internet.
A July 08th release date currently stands for the band’s aforementioned new album. Meanwhile, returning Megadeth member James LoMenzo is expected to handle the bass duties during the band’s forthcoming live engagements, which include a new leg of ‘The Metal Tour Of The Year‘ with Lamb Of God, Trivium and In Flames.
