Chris Barnes, who notably fronted legendary death metal outfit Cannibal Corpse amid their early career before departing in 1995 to front Six Feet Under and more, appears to not be a fan of the modern death metal crop. Commenting publicly on a recent ‘Death Metal Round Table’ discussion posted recently by Knotfest (see below,) Barnes offered:
I just watched a “death metal” podcast on YouTube that was done about a week ago with the “top” death metal vocalists .. it made me physically ill. I despise what this genre has become.

Several vocalists appeared in that aforementioned discussion, including Barnes‘ successor in Cannibal Corpse, George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher. Also appearing were The Black Dahlia Murder‘s Trevor Strnad, Gatecreeper‘s Chase Mason and Undeath‘s Alex Jones.
Hatebreed, etc. frontman Jamey Jasta himself responded directly to Barnes regarding the tweet, encouraging him to guest on his ‘The Jasta Show‘ podcast to further discuss his comments on the video and state of death metal, but Barnes was quick to rebuff him. The below exchange took:
No thanks brother. I have no need to jump on that bandwagon you guys got that

Ain’t here to play that game. You have fun tho bro.

— Jamey Jasta (@jameyjasta) January 27, 2022

— Chris Barnes (@sixfeetofficial) January 27, 2022
Barnes would later go on to respond to a fan in reply to Jasta‘s comments:
