Incubus’ Brandon Boyd & Portugal. The Man Guest On AWOLNATION’s Cover Of Scorpions’ “Wind Of Change”

Incubus vocalist Brandon Boyd guests on AWOLNATION‘s newly released cover of German hard rock band Scorpions‘ culturally significant 1990 track “Wind Of Change“. That song served as a proverbial bridge between German and Russian cultures in a post cold war era—enough so that that rumors emerged that the CIA had a hand in helping write the track, which some have construed to be thinly veiled propaganda for the time.

Members of Scorpions themselves have denied those allegations however, stating that the song was inspired by a concert they performed in Moscow, Russia in 1989 and the warm embrace they received from the audience there.

AWOLNATION commented of this take, which also features guest contributions from Portugal. The Man:

“I’ll never claim this to be as good as the original by Scorpions but with the help of Portugal. The Man and Brandon Boyd, i hope it brings you a similiar optimistic feeling that the song gave me as a kid when it was on MTV constantly. Can’t wait to share more of these cover songs and special guests with you!”
