Legendary East Coast DJ & producer DJ Premier (formerly of Gang Starr) has been running a YouTube series titled ‘So Wassup?‘ in recent months, chronicling key releases from his past on which he used a floppy disk for sampling and programming.

For the newly released twelfth episode, he discusses how he wound up working with Limp Bizkit on their 7x multi-platinum album “Significant Other“. Premier was recruited to help prop up the album track “N 2 Gether Now“, which also featured Method Man of Wu-Tang Clan fame.

In the video, Premier revealed that he initially turned down the opportunity, at first being unhappy with his potential lack of input on the track due to the band having already had a complete demo. He also wasn’t entirely impressed with Durst, as he stated:

“To me Fred [Durst, Limp Bizkit frontman] was dope with what they did. But when it came to the emceeing aspect of what I was used to, I was very, very hesitant to do it. I was like, ‘yo man, I’m just not feeling the way he raps.'”

However, after Method Man agreed to collaborate on the track and Fred Durst requested a meeting with Premier, in which he impressed him with his extensive hip hop knowledge, Premier eventually signed on.

In the video below, Premier goes on to explain that Durst even came prepared with a dubplate (a temporary acetate pressing) of him shouting the various phrases you would expect such as “yeah”, “bring it on”, “Limp Bizkit” for Premier to sample and scratch into the track. Premier also goes on to play a bit of the band’s own early demo version of the track.

N 2 Gether Now” was eventually released as the third single from “Significant Other” along with an official music video for it in which Premier and Method Man both appeared.
