Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” Joins The Billion Streams Club On Spotify

Legendary grunge pioneers Nirvana have newly joined the billion streams club for a single track on Spotify. Their 1991 platinum-certified single “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is their first individual song to notch up a 10 digit play count. That single was originally launched as the first from the group’s diamond-certified (10x multi-platinum) 1991 sophomore album “Nevermind“.

In our current pop and rock dominated climate, a billion play count song on Spotify remains an incredibly rare feat—especially in the world of hard rock and heavier music. Linkin Park recently managed to clear that hurdle with their track “In The End“.

Meanwhile, other rock and metal mainstays such as Guns N’ Roses (“Sweet Child O’ Mine“, 974,218,936 plays), AC/DC (“Back In Black“, 811,372,674 plays) and Metallica (“Enter Sandman“, 683,874,655 plays) continue to inch toward the milestone.
