Grunge legends Nirvana seem to be riding high as of late. Outside of reports that their 1991 grunge landmark “Nevermind” recently overtook AC/DC‘s “Back In Black“ in total album sales, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Famers also just landed a new gold record in the United States. October 15th saw the RIAA declare Nirvana‘s 1988 cover of Shocking Blue‘s 1969 single “Love Buzz” gold. That rendition saw a release on Nirvana‘s debut album “Bleach” as its debut single, and via Sub Pop‘s singles club series — a pressing which was limited to 1,000 copies. Given its scarcity, that pressing remains a valuable collector’s item.
*A platinum album/single in the United States represents 1,000,000 units, while gold signifies 500,000 units. Outside of traditional physical/digital sales, the certifications factor in digital streams/downloads with 10 permanent track downloads counting as 1 unit and 1500 on-demand audio/video streams from a particular album also counting as as a unit. 150 streams of a song also equate to a track-equivalent unit.
