Metallica’s Kirk Hammett Says He Has “Over 600 Ideas” For The Band’s Next Album

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has revealed he has some 600 song ideas for the band’s forthcoming new album. Hammett of course wasn’t as involved as he wanted to be in the group’s latest studio album “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct after infamously losing his iPhone which had over 250 song ideas on it.

Presumably now plugged into the cloud or having taken other precautions this time around, he recently told Uproxx of his progress with new songs:

“We [Metallica] have weekly check-ins, and the dialogue has been steered towards what we’re going to be doing in the immediate future. And I’ve been using this time to go through all my musical ideas that I’ve come up with. In the last three or four years, it’s over 600 ideas.

It’s taken me a couple of months to go through it all. But they’ve been sent into the big musical idea bank, and we’re starting to talk about going through all that stuff, and exchanging ideas, and just starting to get the ball rolling towards creating some new material.”

Last week the band’s frontman/guitarist James Hetfield revealed he has written “tons of material” during the COVID-19 downtime. Metallica released their new orchestral live album “S&M2” last week.
