See Phil Anselmo Play Pantera’s “We’ll Grind That Axe For A Long Time” Live For The First Time

Former Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo gave a live debut to the Pantera track “We’ll Grind That Axe For A Long Time” during a recent set with his backing band The Illegals. Anselmo and that group have been playing Pantera-themed sets for some time now and gave the song it’s first playthrough during their January 30th set at the Umeda Club Quattro in January 30th.

Sadly, with both the bands ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott and Vinnie Paul Abbott both gone now, this is about as close as we’ll get to a proper live performance of the “Reinventing The Steel” cut outside of ex-Pantera bassist Rex Brown potentially hopping onstage. Prior to playing the track, Anselmo stated to the audience:

“These songs always, always, always are a tribute and love to Vinnie Paul and Dimebag. Pantera never played this song that we’re about to play — we never played it live. This is the first time we’re performing it live ever. First time live, ever. So if I fuck up, it’s Blue‘s fault… Hey, this is special. This is one for the hardcore Pantera fans.”
