Prong’s Tommy Victor Reflects On The Success Of “Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck”

Prong‘s hit single “Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck” off of 1994’s “Cleansing” certainly elevated the band’s career, but it didn’t come without a cost, according to their frontman/guitarist Tommy Victor. Speaking recently on the ‘BREWtally Speaking Podcast‘ (hear it below,) Victor stated of that track in particular:

“We lost a lot of fans from the general metaldom when that song became big because they were like ‘oh sell out’ or ‘what are they trying to do? This is not real metal, this is not really hardcore.’

So, a lot of the fans that were into the earlier records, when that came out, were like ‘screw these guys.’ And we’ve never gotten those people back. And I don’t know why, but there was a huge exodus, and we gained more of the fair-weather fans with the hit song, and they don’t really show up now neither, so it’s a problem.

Again, being a kid that listened to singles and buying 45’s as a kid, and was a song-oriented guy. I’m very proud of that song. I’m like at least I got one song that crossed over and that people rocked to on a big level. It has its benefits and has its faults to it too.

I like that song, I like playing it every night, people are into it, but again. I think we rolled the dice and some people aren’t into it for whatever reason.”
