Seattle, WA Mayor Officially Declares Today ‘Layne Staley Day’


Today, August 22nd, 2019, has been officially been proclaimed ‘Layne Staley Day‘ in the city of Seattle, WA. The city’s mayor Jenny Durkan made an official proclamation in honor of the late Alice In Chains, Mad Season singer as today would marked his 52nd birthday.

Staley passed away from a drug overdose in April of 2002 with the Layne Stayley Memorial Fund having been launched in his honor by his parents in the time since. The organization provides aid, education and helps treat recovering heroin addicts in the Seattle music community.
