Ben Weinman Discusses His Recent Brutal Onstage Fall With Suicidal Tendencies

You may have seen the brutal fall guitarist Ben Weinman suffered onstage while performing with Suicidal Tendencies in Garden Grove, CA earlier this month. While the accident looked particularly painful, Weinman still soldiered on with the set. His tenacity in doing so is not surprising given he is no stranger to injury, having survived his lengthy tenure enduring countless injuries as the driving force behind The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Weinman has since spoken to Q104.3 about the incident, which ironically took place while the band we’re performing “You Can’t Bring Me Down“. Speaking of that, he offered:

“I definitely felt it as soon as the show was over and did some serious ‘Batman-fix’ on my own spine the next day, but I’m used to it.

I got up so quickly and the show was so nuts I don’t think most people saw it. Nobody in the band did. But our friends on the side of the stage we’re like ‘holy fuck.’

I saw [the video] after the show and was like, ‘Damn.'”

Reflecting on his penchant for still being fearless onstage, Weinman added:

“…I am a complete idiot. I’m married with two small children. And my doctor said I have no cartilage in my knees. My spine is covered in arthritis and scar tissue. I’ve had a bunch of concussions, rotator cuff surgery, broken ribs, feet, metal in my wrist. I’m 44. But I just can’t not rock.”

When not out with Suicidal Tendencies, Weinman spends his time running an animal sanctuary with his wife. You can contribute to the Patreon to help keep that running here.
