As I Lay Dying’s Tim Lambesis Says “Shaped By Fire” Is About “Taking Those Painful Moments In Our Lives And Using Them To Them To Transform”

As I Lay Dying have released the first studio video for their upcoming seventh studio album, “Shaped By Fire“. While the making of the recently debuted music video for the title track is discussed, the band also open up on the lyrical themes behind the track itself. Frontman Tim Lambesis spoke of that as follows:

“The chorus for “Shaped By Fire” really sums up a lot of what’s going on on the album lyrically. To me being shaped by fire is an easy to understand metaphor, so I felt like it’s a great title. But beyond being easy to understand, [you can] definitely dig deeper, you can really understand the need for transformation, Understand transformation is a painful process. “Shaped By Fire” talks about taking those painful moments in our lives and using them to them to transform, to be reborn in a lot of ways.

In the first verse of that song I talk about [how] wise people know how to sort of refine themselves through that fire and change process on their own. Then the second verse shifts over to me talking about the failures and pain that I brought upon myself and the pain I brought upon others and when I eventually hit rock bottom I had no choice but to change.”

The album marks the band’s first record since Lambesis‘ 2016 release from prison after having attempted to hire an undercover police officer posing as a hitman to murder his then wife back in 2013. Since then Lambesis has remarried and has been pursuing a side career in addiction treatment counseling. Lambesis was found to have been abusing steroids around the time of his crime. “Shaped By Fire” will be released on September 20th through Nuclear Blast.

The band will be touring extensively around the album with this Latin American tour, this European/UK tour with Chelsea Grin, Unearth and more and this fall North American tour with After The Burial and Emmure currently booked.
