Ex-Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Alleges Inmates Threatened Him To Ask His Fans For Money

There’s been some more developments in the ongoing trial of ex-Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins. Watkins is of course currently serving a 35 year prison sentence at the the high-security HM Prison Wakefield in Wakefield, England for various child sex related crimes, after having been found guilty back in 2013.

In March of 2018 Watkins was found to have been in possession of a mobile phone in prison after prison officials were tipped off by a woman Watkins had been corresponding with via the device. Upon a search of his cell, Watkins was found to have concealed the phone in his anus.

Watkins claimed that he was holding the phone under threat of violence from fellow inmates. In his latest appearance in court today, August 07th, Watkins revealed that he still receives large amounts of fanmail in prison from women, some of which included sexual fantasies. He said two men were forcing him to use these fans as a potential revenue stream.

According to the Independent, Watkins claimed that he would be “taken out” if he did not comply with their demands, stating that the individuals’ “MO is throat cutting.”

When asked by the court if Watkins was prepared to name the men involved, he told the jury “No. I like my head on my body.” Watkins further added that one of the men involved was a “top boy” and stated “You know he can get to your family.” He continued:

“The chances are, without my knowledge, someone would sneak up behind me and cut my throat. It’s not like one-on-one, let’s have a fight. Stuff like that, you don’t see it coming.”

Watkins alleges to have provided the two inmates with numbers for people he thought would not cooperate and did not come forward to prison officials earlier as he had heard rumors a guard was sneaking in items for one of the inmates involved. As it stands, Watkins continues to deny possessing the phone with the trial still ongoing.
