Static-X’s Tony Campos On The Identity Of ‘Xer0’: “We’re Actually Having Fun With All The Different Speculations”

Static-X‘s Tony Campos was recently asked about the rumors of their current frontman ‘Xer0‘ possibly being Dope vocalist Edsel Dope. The mystery singer dons a necrotic Wayne Static caricature like mask and has stepped in on tour for the late Wayne Static.

When asked recently by Loudwire about the rumors, Campos laughed off the question before replying:

“We’re actually having fun with all the different speculations. Years ago playing with Soulfly, the guitarist Mark Rizzo joked we should recruit [Bad Wolves frontman] Tommy Vext to sing and rename the band Static-Vext. Sometimes if people are persistent about the question, I tell them it’s Tommy Vext.”

Speaking on paying tribute to their fallen bandmate via the band’s ongoing 20th anniversary tour for “Wisconsin Death Trip” and their forthcoming new album “Project Regeneration“, which will feature Static‘s previously unreleased studio recordings, Campos offered:

“We started thinking of all these different merch designs we had, like the Wayne skull shirt and that’s where the mask came from. Wayne was our Bruce Dickinson and our Eddie. I know he would’ve dug us representing him onstage like this. It also helps keep the focus on remembering Wayne and celebrating the anniversary as opposed to, ‘Oh, here’s Static-X’s new singer.’ That’s not what we’re trying to do.”

Xer0 himself issued this statement yesterday, June 20th, on his role in the band. You can catch Static-X out on the following dates:
