As is generally the case, Slipknot‘s reveal of their new masks and look earlier today (May 16th) for their new album cycle became a bit of an event itself. The group are known to reinvent their appearance on each album cycle and have since released the below photo set, offering an up close peek at each of their newest masks.
While the new music, album and masks grabbed the spotlight, some may have missed that the band’s ranks are back up to 9 members with an as-yet unannounced replacement for percussionist Chris Fehn having been recruited. Fehn remains locked in a legal battle with his former bandmates and was let go earlier this year as a result..
Frontman Corey Taylor worked with horror fx legend Tom Savini on his new mask, while it is unclear who was brought in to help create the others. Since debuting their new track “Unsainted“ and revealing the details for their next album “We Are Not Your Kind“, which is out August 09th, the band took to their Instagram to share the following intimate shots of each member:
Sid Wilson (#0):
Jim Root (#4):
Craig Jones (#5):
M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan (#6):
Mick Thomson (#7):
Corey Taylor (#8):
Alessandro Venturella:
Identity Unknown:
While there’s no public word yet on who has taken over for Chris Fehn in the band, some fans have already jumped to the conclusion that it may be Simon Crahan, son of the band’s percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan. Clown previously stated back in 2012 that he hoped his son Gage Crahan would one day take over for him in the band.
Both Gage and his brother Simon have a musical background, though apparent teases such as this and this in recent weeks from Simon‘s Instagram have sparked speculation amongst the band’s fans.*
*Update: May 16th, 2019 01:45 PM: Simon has since stated via his Instagram that he has not joined the band.
