Disturbed’s David Draiman Says He Was “Higher Than A Giraffe’s Ass” While Writing Most Of “Evolution”, Says “Hell No” To Returning To Twitter

Disturbed frontman David Draiman doesn’t foresee himself returning to Twitter anytime soon, some several years since deleting his account. Speaking in a new interview (or ‘interrogation’) with Loudwire, Draiman commented on whether he would ever be back on what he refers to as ‘the wonderful cancer of social media.” He also spoke on whether or not he is able to connect with fans as much as he did during his time on the platform:

“No, I can’t on the same level, by any means, and it’s unfortunate. It’s also a matter of just pure numbers.

Once it got to a point where I could no longer handle it in terms of sheer volume and size, it became a daunting thing—it became something that actually came between me and my wife; I spent so much time on it.

The water has been poisoned for quite some time as far as interaction is concerned. Social media has become a high school playground where the challenge is what idiot can come up with the best insult, and do you end up congratulating ’em for it.

It’s really sad. Either that or people just pushing their own respective ideas on everyone, trying to shove everything down everybody else’s throats, and so much elitism and so much lack of camaraderie and lack of unity. It’s become a very, very ugly thing.”

When later asked if he would ever come back he replied: “Hell No. No, never. I’m never returning to Twitter.” During the chat Draiman also said that his past claim of “95% of the songs I’ve written in my life, I’ve written them while high” still rings true. Draiman was referring to his use of cannabis as an inspirational tool during his creative process and stated that he still remains a big proponent of it. When asked about the quote and if it was still the case for his writing process during the band’s latest album “Evolution“, he commented:

“That’s still true. [High] as a kite. Higher than giraffe’s ass… I’m all about indica to be honest. The heavier, the danker, the more potent the better. And when you are improvising there’s something beautiful cannabis just does for you in terms of that wonderful THC high that it just enables you to relax and open up your mind. And it enables me to find the gaps, so to speak, to think of note progressions that I wouldn’t have normally thought.

People have always utilized—whether its marijuana or other drugs, mine will always stay marijuana, I don’t really mess with anything else—for inspiration and it’s an amazing tool.

It also has other side benefits, anti-inflammatory benefits all that kind of stuff, it helps keep my blood pressure down. So, I’m a big fan and I’m a big supporter and investor…”

Draiman also later revealed that while he still keeps his trademark chin piercings with him in his toiletry bag, he doesn’t intend to sport them again with both of the holes having since closed up.
