Soulfly’s Max Cavalera Hopes To Eventually Work On A Metal/Dub Side Project, As Well One “Rooted In The Heavier Side Of Music”

With Nailbomb, Cavalera Conspiracy and Killer Be Killed under his belt, you’d think Soulfly vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera‘s plate would be full when it comes to side projects. In the below interview put out by his label, Nuclear Blast Records, he states that he has two other projects he hopes to find the time to pursue some day. One of those projects he describes as being “heavy”—apparently more so than his other projects. Speaking of that he said:

“There’s nothing official yet but I’d like to do a real heavy project at some time. I don’t know with who yet, it’s just so… It’s just in my mind right now. Something really rooted in the heavier side of music.”

Another project he has been tinkering with the idea of pursuing for the past twenty years would unite the styles of metal and dub. He explained:

“Another idea that I would really love to do is the two kinds of music that I like, which is metal and dub—not dubstep—but original dub, which is like a version of reggae. I’d like to go to Jamaica and record a lot of traditional, original dub from Jamaica and Europe and then make a full-on metal/reggae dub record. I don’t even care if nobody likes it. It’s one of those things, it’s just for my own thing. I just gotta do it. I’ve been wanting to do this record for 20 years now…”

You can watch him discuss the project further below. Soulfly‘s new album “Ritual” will receive an October 19th release on Nuclear Blast.
