Last night (June 13th) saw Cave In take to the stage to honor their fallen bandmate Caleb Scofield, who passed away this past March in a car accident. That show took place at The Royale in Boston, MA and saw Caleb‘s brother Kyle join the band on bass for six songs. Converge, etc. bassist Nate Newton then took over seven songs. Following that a tribute set to Scofield‘s Zozobra took place with a series of guests sitting in.
Among those taking the stage were Cave In‘s Steve Brodsky, Aaron Turner (Old Man Gloom, ex-Isis, etc.) Kevin Baker (All Pigs Must Die, The Hope Conspiracy, etc.) and Old Man Gloom‘s Santos Montano, who was a member of Zozobra at one point. Converge and The Cancer Conspiracy also performed earlier in the night.
The set itself can be seen below and starts at 2:52:00 in. You can donate to Scofield‘s family over at Youcaring.com. As for the set itself, here’s how it ran:
With Kyle Scofield:
“Youth Overrided”
“The Calypso”
“Harvest Moon” (Neil Young cover)
“Everest”
“Heartbreaks, Earthquakes”
“Tension In The Ranks”
With Nate Newton:
“Juggernaut”
“Dark Driving”
“Off To Ruin”
“Trepanning”
“Serpents”
“Big Riff”
“Sing My Loves”
One of Scofield‘s other prominent outfits, Old Man Gloom, also took to the stage earlier in the night with Cave In‘s Stephen Brodsky in Scofield‘s place. You can watch their set at around 45 minutes in. A West Coast benefit show for Scofield‘s family will take place at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA on October 13th with similar lineup, including a reunited Isis on the bill.
