Update – February 22st, 2018 – 04:54pm:

The Riot Room in Kansas City, MO has now cancelled their planned Taake show. The venue announced the cancellation with the following statement:

“We have decided to cancel the Taake event scheduled to be held March 31st at The Riot Room. Refunds will be processed immediately for anyone who purchased tickets. As a venue, it is our priority to provide a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all patrons, artists, and staff. This always has, and will always continue to be our primary goal.”

Thus far New York and Chicago shows on the tour have also been cancelled in the wake of activist groups and others protesting the shows due to Taake frontman Hoest‘s alleged ties to Nazism.

Original Story:

The controversy over Taake‘s North American tour following allegations of Nazism leveled against the band’s mastermind Hoest continues. Billboard report that rapper Talib Kweli has cancelled his show at The Riot Room in Kansas City, MO due to the venue having also booked a Taake show.

As he has in the past, Hoest recently denied the allegations brought against him. The allegations have been circulating again following complaints from Antifa related groups regarding a performance in Germany some years ago in which Hoest performed with a swastika on his chest. Meanwhile, others, including Kweli, have decried the band for allegedly anti-Muslim lyrics as well.

Thus far at least one of Taake‘s planned shows has been cancelled. Talib Kweli has since been battling back and forth with apparent supporters of Taake on his Twitter in the wake of his announcement cancelling the show, which reads as follows:

“I find it appalling that the Riot Room refuses to apologize for booking this band. I wouldn’t feel safe bringing my team, family, and fans into a venue that is sympathetic to white nationalism, so I’ve cancelled the show.

My position is that the venue should not want to host that band whether the band cancelled or not, and should issue an apology for even booking the band. The response I received was that the venue did not want to choose sides between a band that sympathizes with racism and bigotry and me. I think it’s time to choose a side.

I find it appalling that The Riot Room refuses to apologize for booking this band. I wouldn’t feel safe bringing my team, family, and fans into a venue that is sympathetic to white nationalism, so I’ve cancelled the show. It’s a shame because I was really looking forward to performing in Kansas City.”

This latest controversy arrives after King Dude decided to withdraw from the tour due to not supporting the beliefs allegedly shared by Hoest.
