Pearl Jam/Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron has released the debut single, “Time Can’t Wait“, from his new solo album, “Cavedweller“. Cameron recently discussed the project with, revealing that the origins of the album’s title date back to the early 80’s. It is also revealed that while Cameon handled the singing and guitars, he recruited drummer Mark Guiliana and bassist Tim Lefebvre for the rhythm section after being impressed by their work on David Bowie‘s final album, “Blackstar“.

Though slated for a September 22nd release date, Cameron also confirmed that the album had been recorded prior to the death of Soundgarden, etc. frontman Chris Cornell. Cornell took his own life this past May following a Soundgarden show in Detroit, MI earlier that night.

Cameron had played some of the material for Cornell in March of this year, and said of his reaction:

“I played some of it for him last March. He really liked it. He was always very supportive of me writing music for the band and kind of going for it. That was great. And I played some of it for Eddie [Vedder] and he really liked it, too. That felt great.”

Cameron also mentioned that he doesn’t expect to tour in support of the effort, though he does hope for more solo output down the line. For more from him on the album head to
