Pearl Jam hit the stage last night (September 25th) for a surprise early set at this year’s ‘Ohana Festival‘ in Dana Point, CA. The band had originally only been announced for the closing September 27th stop of that fest, which was co-founded by their frontman Eddie Vedder.
Notably, the show saw the diamond-certified grunge legends taking to the stage for the first time with drummer Abe Laboriel Jr., who appears to have been chosen as the replacement for Matt Cameron. Earlier this year, Pearl Jam‘s guitarist Stone Gossard indicated the band had settled on a replacement for Cameron, though the group were keeping it quiet for the time being.
Abe is no stranger to playing with rock royalty, having best been known as a member of Sir Paul McCartney‘s backing band since 2001. For now, it would appear as the two parties are letting their fanbase marinate over last night’s performance, with neither having issued a public statement as of press time.
