Mastodon To Reportedly Release New Album “Cold Dark Place” In September

Over the past year or so, Mastodon guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds has discussed his plans for a new ‘solo’ album titled “Cold Dark Place“. Originally it was planned to be combined with what became their latest release “Emperor Of Sand” and issued as a double album. Of course, that didn’t happen.

Instead “Cold Dark Place” will now be released as a new Mastodon effort in its own right. Back in June of 2016 Hinds told Guitar World of that album when they were still toying with the idea of a double album release:

“One is an album I wrote myself, and recorded with Brann and Troy during the ‘Once More ‘Round The Sun‘ sessions. My part is called ‘Cold Dark Place‘, and it has to do with a nasty breakup that I went through. I wrote some pretty dark, beautiful, spooky, funky, ethereal, melancholy music, which also sounds like the Bee Gees a little bit. [laughs]”

Though official word has yet to surface, a now pulled Amazon listing had the album scheduled for a September 22nd release date via Reprise. Hinds himself also teased the effort earlier today, officially unveiling the cover art for it:

New jamZ coming soon!??????
