Numerous Linkin Park Singles Go Multi-Platinum Following Chester Bennington’s Death


The tragic suicide of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington on July 20th saw numerous albums and singles from the band storm the charts. The first wave of RIAA certifications for those sales/streams in the United States have now come in and expectedly, numerous singles from the band’s catalog have received new sales awards. Here’s the rundown:

  • Numb” from 2003’s “Meteora” went 3x platinum. It was certified both 2x and 3x platinum on August 04th, 2017. It previously hit platinum on October 01st, 2009.
  • In The End” went 4x platinum on August 04th, having previously been certified gold on August 18th, 2008.
  • New Divide“, their single for the 2009 film ‘Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen‘, was certified 3x platinum, previously having been certified 2x platinum on February 14th, 2011.
  • Shadow Of The Day” from 2007’s “Minutes To Midnight” hit 2x platinum, having attained platinum status prior on June 11th, 2008.
  • Bleed It Out” from “Minutes To Midnight” hit 2x platinum, previously having been certified platinum on August 25th, 2009.
  • What I’ve Done” from “Minutes To Midnight” skyrocketed to 5x platinum, having last been certified 2x platinum on November 13th, 2008.
  • Leave Out All The Rest” off of “Minutes To Midnight” hit platinum. Its previous gold certification took place on October 05th, 2009.
  • Waiting For The End” off of 2010’s “A Thousand Suns” also went platinum, last having gone gold on April 07th, 2011.
  • Their “Numb“/’Encore” pairing with Jay-Z off of 2004’s “Collision Course” also racked up a new sales award, hitting 2x platinum status. It had previously gone platinum on August 18th, 2008.

All of the above new sales awards were announced on August 04th, 2017. The RIAA‘s sales certifications factor in digital streams into their awards with 150 on-demand streams being equivalent to one download/unit of the song. Platinum awards reflect 1 million units, while gold reflects 500,000 units.
