Rex Brown Says Pantera Once Came “Close” To Reuniting

Former Pantera/Down bassist Rex Brown was asked by Loudwire how close the surviving members of the band have come to reuniting over the years. He responded “close” before offering:

“Well, I just speak for myself. I mean, I’d love to get out there and play those songs again. And if everybody else was willing to do it… You know, I think the whole thing would be get us all in a room, throw some water on it and get that water underneath the bridge all settled and make some music again. But it would be different. We’d be missing something. And that’s the big ugh. I’m just being as honest as I can. It would be different.”

“I’d do anything to have that back—family and all that kind of stuff. I never say ‘never’ on that kind of thing, and I’m tired of saying, you know, ‘hell freezes over,’ or whatever, but at the same time, life is getting too short and you never know… But I’m not saying there’s been any talks at all.

Would I do it? Phillip, I just saw Phil not long ago. We’re all doing our own things… I’d get up there and do it for fucking nothing.”

The band of course would have a lot of hurdles to clear, taking to the stage without guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott, who was murdered onstage in December of 2004. Years ago Zakk Wylde was often tossed around for a then rumored reunion. There’s also long been beef between drummer Vinnie Paul and singer Phil Anselmo that would need to be resolved.
