Though former Avenged Sevenfold drummer Arin Ilejay has since found a gig with Islander, he spoke of the initial shock he felt when he was let go by his previous outfit. Speaking to Rollingstone.com, he commented:
“I was totally shocked and scared out of my mind when Synyster Gates called me to let me go. I was like, ‘Oh my God! My wife is about to have a baby. How am I going to support my family now?'”

It also sounds as though despite being a member of Avenged Sevenfold for four years, he was never considered a true member of the band’s inner circle—at least when it came to songwriting:
“I realized if I joined Islander I would have an opportunity to help write songs and build something, instead of being on the inside but, at the same time, really be on the outside the way I was with Avenged.”
Islander themselves announced their new album and debuted a new song earlier today (June 17th.) Ilejay has since been replaced in Avenged Sevenfold by former Bad Religion drummer Brooks Wackerman.
