The Stone Temple Pilots‘ Robert and Dean DeLeo discuss their ongoing vocalist search in a new video interview with Rollingstone.com. The band have been privately auditioning potential candidates for the role in recent weeks and reveal that there already are “a couple of people they really dig” in the running and that more will be coming in. A point of interest is that Dean mentions that women are also being considered to fill the void in the band, originally left by their now late singer, Scott Weiland. As Robert goes on to state of the process:
“We’re not looking to replace… It’s impossible to replace Scott [Weiland.] It really is. We created something that only the four of us could create. More so it’s about moving forward, but it’s also about someone honoring that and being able to get their creativity around that.
So like Dean said, there is a lot to ask of someone. Someone that can move this band forward, and you know, I enjoy still playing the songs that Dean and I wrote. I want to continue to playing those songs and I think people still want to hear those songs. And that’s what we want to do.”
The three of us, Eric, Dean and I have something–we’ve been playing music half our lives and you can’t just dismiss that. It’s something that I appreciate and I cherish in my life and I want to continue doing that.”
