Last Week's Album Sales Represent An All Time Low, Label Heads Say Streaming Is To Blame

A report over at Billboard.com reveals that last week’s 3.97 million total albums sold in the US represents the least amount of albums sold in a weekly period since the advent of the Nielsen SoundScan back in 1991.

The piece goes on to imply that the continued decline of album sales follows a market shift towards streaming rather than purchasing. An unidentified sales head of a label said of this years sales trend:

“Sales have been going in the wrong direction all year. I guess its overdue, when you look at [the growth of streaming].”
