As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis has issued a new statement on his social media following yesterday’s (December 28th) release of a new interview with his ex-wife Dany Ciara. That discussion took place via the BREWtally Speaking Podcast, and found Dany expanding upon several troubling past allegations of abuse and more against Tim in greater detail than she had previously publicly provided.
The couple’s relationship infamously came to a public end in the fall of 2024, with the turbulent and volatile behavior being exhibited between them being pivotal in the collapse of the then lineup of As I Lay Dying, according to past members of the metalcore band.
Numerous leaked videos of the couple in concerning exchanges also leaked online. Alarming allegations and claims were also made against each other by both Tim and Dany in separate individual statements (see Tim‘s statement and Dany‘s statement.)
Since then, Lambesis has gone on to rebuild As I Lay Dying with an all new roster behind him, while also moving forward with new music and international touring thus far. In a statement on his Instagram yesterday, December 28th, Tim responded to his ex-wife’s newly released interview and the controversy surrounding it as follows:
“I stayed quiet about my personal life because it wasn’t relevant to the work. I’m only speaking now because the same pattern keeps repeating. Old stories resurface only when my life and career move forward again.
I’m not interested in drama or attention. The music either stands on its own or it doesn’t.
What is difficult to ignore is when someone you moved on from long ago suddenly becomes publicly fixated right when momentum returns. That kind of timing explains itself.
Context matters. Removing it is the easiest way to manufacture a narrative, especially when platforms are willing to host one-sided stories without accountability.
I was held accountable for my past over a decade ago. Since then, my life has been public, documented, and scrutinized. If anything illegal had happened in the years since, it would have been addressed through proper channels.
This isn’t even unique. The same sequence played out with another artist, Greg Overton, following a surge of visibility after appearing on the Joe Rogan podcast. Public commentary from a former relationship followed immediately. People noticed then, just as they notice now.
Some people build things. Others only appear when there’s something to attach themselves to. In the end, it’s the work that lasts, not the noise around it.
It’s over. Time to finally move on. I’m going back to making music. I have an album to finish before the next tour.”
Speaking alongside that post, Tim offered on his Instagram:
“I’ve stayed quiet for a long time because the work mattered more than the noise.I’m only speaking now because silence stops being an option when old stories resurface without context.”
“Context matters. Online narratives don’t always reflect reality. Onward (for most of us at least) to a beautiful new year.”
Tim has also been active in the comments of that Instagram post. He responded directly to an individual who asked the following question, “Why did none of these allegations come out when all of the security camera footage “leaked?” Why wait until now? It makes no sense, unless there’s something to gain, or a vendetta. Now there are claims of physical abuse, but I recall the statement where she denounced any such occurrence.”
Tim‘s direct response to that query read:
“It’s reasonable to have a panic attack when a person traps you in rooms for days and chases you with a knife. There were MULTIPLE witnesses both male and female that you’ve heard nothing but lies when the whole context is present. If you care about domestic violence don’t come after people without proof because there’s a VERY good chance you’re attacking the one who has been abused.”
A different individual then replied to Tim‘s above-mentioned response in that comment thread, stating, “is that based on empirical data, Tim Tim, or your lived experience as an abuser? Why do you get a pass for not addressing these things in the moment (ie not calling the cops when someone was chasing you with a knife), but your ex should be vilified for credibly speaking out? Straight up goon.”
Tim replied to that as follows:
“credibly speaking out? You mean, just making up blatant lies and then trying to discredit everybody else that was there in case they speak and call her out? The witnesses were both men and women. None of them have been unwilling to speak, but nobody cares about the truth. They just want me to be the bad guy and they want to believe anything that comes out of a psychotic woman’s mouth”
A separate exchange found an Instagram user stating, “Anybody who says “I am not about the drama, i’m not looking for attention, I don’t like to post about my personal stuff, and I don’t want negativity”? is literally the most problematic and dramatic person out there”
Tim directly response to that read as follows:
“have you ever considered that your mind is so small that you missed a very obvious point. I stayed completely silent for an entire year because I didn’t give a shit about this stuff and wanted to move on with my life. But a psychotic woman keeps manipulating the past to self serve her for attention. that’s the whole point. Try to use all the parts of your brain before you comment next time”
Another comment that drew a direct response from Tim read, “Didn’t know the story so googled if you were still married, found a video from 2024 without audio of you raging in an argument with Dany. This is not how men should treat their women, and sure context matters, but given the charges you previously did jail time for, it’s hard to look past.”
Tim replied directly:
“it’s for sure hard to understand that person would have a mental breakdown after being trapped in rooms and unable to leave for days at a time as well as being chased around with a knife. But just because it’s hard to understand doesn’t mean that’s not what happened.”
