Grammy Awards producer Ken Ehrlich has issued an apology to Metallica over their technical issues during their performance at this year’s awards ceremony. The band took to the stage with Lady Gaga to play “Moth Into Flame” this past weekend, only to find that frontman/guitarist James Hetfield‘s mic wasn’t operational for the first minute or so. Speaking to the The Associated Press yesterday, February 15th, Ehrlich commented:
“These kinds of things are horrible when they happen. That’s one of the risks of live television.”
He continued:
“My guys say that the mic cable was connected. My guys’ theory was that … one of the extras (on stage) accidentally kicked out the cable that went to the mic.”
“Obviously, we apologize to the band.”
As was evidenced in the footage and a recent interview, Hetfield was none too pleased with the snafu.
