Chimaira Guitarist, Bassist, Keyboardist & Drummer Announce Their Departure

Following the departure of guitarist Emil Werstler, the rest of Chimaira‘s current lineup sans vocalist Mark Hunter have now quit the group as well. Guitarist Matt Szlachta, keyboardist/vocalist Sean Zatorsky, bassist Jeremy Creamer and drummer Austin D’Amond issued the following collective statement to today:

“In light of recent news, the rest of the band have decided to part ways with Chimaira. For us this was a great stepping stone, and an honor to play these songs live, and fulfill an incredible legacy. This was an an excellent platform to help continue playing music, when our collective bands either ended or went on a hiatus. Chimaira was an amazing experience and we look forward to future music endeavors with eachother.”

The above-mentioned musicians previously joined vocalist Mark Hunter in the group following a similar mass exodus of members that took place a few years back.

    This is a sign, Mark.

    Please stop.

Stoked that Wookie-poo gets an exclusive ha.
But yeah, this is speaks volumes about the kind of person Mark is. Good luck to all the guys.

At Dirt Fest I went to go eat my Subway during their set and caught their last song… ‘cuz I was getting ready for Battlecross.

  • Life’s Eclipse

He’ll never let Chimaira die. He has something to prove to someone. HarkMunter will appear anytime now with a lame excuse.

…and the Mark Hunter Five become one.

  • NoSalvation

This time when asked, Mark replied, “I’m pretty sure everyone hates me as well.”

  • Buddy Baker

If anyone needs me, I’ll be in my room rocking ‘The Infection’ and pretending this who mess never happened.

Ironically, besides a huge “press onward and upward” attitude that helped Chimaira reach the levels they did on the business side of things, Mark was always the weakest part of this band musically. His lyrics are very pedestrian. There are other vocalists who’ve done more with less, simply with raw emotion, without sounding as cheezy as most of Chimaira’s lyrical content. They were my favorite band for a considerable length of time but as I matured I became disjointed from the juvenile “the world hates me, and I hate the world” lyrics. Not to say there aren’t choice lyrics across all of the albums that still hit home but as a whole, very bland and monotonous.

    • cma3585

His entire vocal style at this point after so many albums is so utterly boring and monotonous. It was cool when I was 18 jamming The Impossibility of Reason but after that it just got old. I hope Daath get back together because their last album was infinitely better than anything Chimaira’s done since their self titled.

      Nailed it. Couldn’t agree more.

  • Clown’s Alcoholic Father. You May Have Heard Of Me

If Chimaira ends who will open every tour? Kyng? Well then that’s settled.

The only way I would continue Chimaira is if you can get most of the old lineup back, most importantly Andols and Arnold. If not, just end it for the love of God!

  • Slipping On Noise

The first break up was a pretty big surprise to me. I had met all of the guys multiple times and even hung out with them for a short while before everything had happened. None of them seemed to be bad guys. But then again, I didn’t work, eat, sleep and breathe with all of them for months at a time.
This breakup doesn’t come as much of a surprise after looking at everything from the first breakup in retrospect. I could be totally wrong, but for some strange reason I get the feeling that Mark just might not be a very pleasant person to work and tour with.

    • cma3585

Only two things constant with this band since day one with them…internal conflict and Mark Hunter. You figure out the rest.

  • jasonm17

The Mark Hunter and (no) friends hour

I can’t wait to hear Mark’s press statement.

  • wtf

Not my favorite band, but Id watch them live over alot of bands they currently tour with. They always take me back to the Pass Out of Existence days when they toured with Machine Head and so on. I liked them back then, and have always checked out whatever new album of theirs came out. I will say I hope this news means better things for everyone. I hope Daath comes back because I love that band, and that’s where Emil, Sean and Jeremy belong. I hope Austin does something as well as I thought hes been an awesome drummer since the Bleed the Sky days. And for Mark, hmmmm. I dont know the guy personally, but hes not a quitter, so I give him that. I know everyone wants him to start a new band, but from what I have heard, and correct me if I’m wrong, doesn’t he write the majority of the music anyway? If he started a new band, and it’s metal, it would prolly sound like Chimaira. I assume it’s like a NIN situation. Isnt Trent NIN? Im sure the list goes on for 1 guy writers with a hired band. Is that not true though, that if he changed the name, he’d still be writing the music and lyrics and vocals, and hiring new players. Unless he just gives up music all together, I still see him hiring new guys for this band, which clearly doesnt seem like a problem for him and the band name. How many hungry metal musicians would try out for this band? I’m sure there are some out there. Want to hear Mark’s side, and whats in the future for Chimaira. Maybe Wookubus can get an exclusive interview with Mark on all these things. Do it. Do it.

    • wtf

Dang, and I see they were to go on tour with Dagoba come October all the way through November. Wonder if Mark is going to cancel the tour, or get new guys to fill in. Hmmm….seems like the new guys just finished their last date last Saturday, and said screw it, we don’t even wanna tour Germany, UK, and Spain. So they left on that commitment. Very hard to decide on. Interesting.

    • jasonm17

The original lineup very much helped create the Chimaira sound, not just Mark. In fact, you can actually hear the music turn into aural diarrhea after Andols and Rob left

  • dftns19

Really the only big band (it felt like they were pretty big mid-2000s) that I’ve ever hung out with, it makes me sad to see it end like this but it’s pretty clear at this point that it should end. Apparently Mark is such an insufferable cunt that he can’t work with anyone, even though he was cool to me.

Echoing others, as I grew older, I outgrew some of the music too, but Daath-maira’s album last year was pretty solid so I had hope.

    • tenwestchaser

That was one atrocious album cover though.

  • BloodyBoneKummer

In hindsight, was “The Impossibility To Reason” just an album titled based off Hunter’s logic?

    • nickygoods

“Impossibility of reason” but I support you and will say this cleverness deserves a thumbs up.

  • EyeOfEveryScorn

Ok now Jay Gordon needs to get a whole new lineup again and make this a competition.

@stantheclam: I actually hope we get your quote in community service honestly! What a random ass CS that would be! I thumbs-up this just in hopes of that very outcome!

And everyone hates Mark Hunter too, apparently
