36 Crazyfists Speak On Drummers Departure, New Album
36 Crazyfists have addressed the various rumors surrounding them, including the departure of drummer Thomas Noonan from their lineup. Here’s what they had to say on the matter:
“To our 36CF Family,
After much thought and discussion in the 36CF camp we have decided to break the silence and address some of the concerns that have been posted on our page. Firstly, Our brother Thomas Noonan has decided to step away from the band, I have played music with T for over 20 yrs, he is one of my best friends so he will be sorely missed but we understand as we get older {and I mean OLDER} life takes on new meanings, so with his decision, we wish him a tremendous amount of success in his newest adventures…
As for 36CF, we are currently working on our new album and at this point we have no release date for you guys. I have to be honest last year was very difficult for my family as I lost my mother to cancer and from that dark period of my life we as a band decided after 19 years of 36CF we needed a break from the road, but as the years have rolled by, one thing I have learned throughout this bands areer is that we have found ways to find new life and overcome tragedies to create something we are truly proud of. So with all of this, we are grateful and eternally indebted to all of our people for their undying loyalty and patience. We can’t wait to get this record finished up and return to the road to connect once again..
With all our love and respect.
36CF”

36CF is a stellar band. Buncha good guys from Alaska playing kickass music. They’ve never released a bad album. I’m looking forward to there new stuff. Thomas Noonan was a badass drummer too, bummer.
i totes agree. this band is underrated and is incredibly consistent releasing good material (assuming you liked them in the first place). i thought collisions and castaways rocked, so i can’t wait to see what is next. as long as brock/steve remain in the band, the songwriting shouldn’t suffer.
This is the best news I’ve heard all week. I honestly thought they were done for. Thomas will be sorely missed, but you can’t blame the guy. After 5 amazing records that were praised critically, you would imagine this band would have a working tour bus. These guys travel countrywide in a freaking camper because their label doesn’t do shit for them. It’s sad, shit bands like Asking Alexandria and Design The Skyline get better label recognition and their music sucks. I’m so tired of all these dip shits that worship all these scene fags. That’s my rant for tonight, long live 36CF.
Its not just THIS label. I remember meeting these guys for the first time (after years of fandom) at the qwest in minneapolis like 5 years ago. I made some crack about a tour bus and Brock said, “no dude, we just have this van that we travel in with our trailer. Fuckin’ machine head, they have a bus but it costs like $25000 a month to rent”. Instantly gained more respect for them.
I guess ive been out of the loop with them and Noonan stepping away sucks. T always had good fills and interesting signature changes, and was a really cool fuckin guy to talk to. Much love and respect to 36CF, heal hearts and grow spirits – see you on the road!
Great news. Brock’s voice is friggin’ awesome, and they never disappoint with the song writing.
Keep it up…
Still, I really don’t think they’ve been able to top A Snow Capped Romance. That record is very tight. Go and listen to ‘Kenai’.
I gotta be optimistic, I really hope they can find a worthy replacement.
Dope Sam Neil shot from Event Horizon!
I had a feeling you’d be the one to pick it, Mac-attack! Well played gov’.
I will miss watching him play. Hope they find a worthy replacement.
I pretty much agree with what everyone is saying here – especially that A Snow Capped Romance was their prime. I think part of that is because Noonan got a little more metalcore generic with each album. I always hated that because his beats on the first two releases have so much air and groove to them – kick placement left everything feeling open. But he started doing more double kick matched exactly to the guitar and lost some of that. I agree that he still has great feels and super awesome quirks he tosses in all over the place.
Some of the coolest dudes ever. I think Brock is among the best singers out there, personally. I agree that the fact they aren’t more appreciated is sad. But I’m glad they press on and keep giving us new music. Oh, and their cover of Criminal Justice on The Oculus EP is stellar.
i think the worst thing about Noonan was how he performed live. if you go to youtube, they play almost everything WAAAY too fast. i obviously don’t know if they just preferred playing things faster, noonan counts the songs off too fast (or both), but i always thought it detracted from their live experience (i’ve seen them a couple of times too). noonan is obviously a good drummer (as should anyone who gets sponsored by OCDP), i just hope his replacement tries to keep the tempos more like the albums.
that has to be the most overrated custom drum company out there. their materials are garbage in comparison to the price. pork pie makes some solid shit. back to the topic….36CF, whomp whomp whooooomp.
wurst….let me introduce you to my friend pussy…i’m pretty sure you’ve never met.
if you’re friends with the pussy then it’s definitely some beat up, mesquite/balch springs pussy. so yes, we’ve never met.
A very interesting point – I was only just watching some of their Live DVD yesterday and thought that very thing, “This is being played way too fast…”
Oh, and I went to AK a couple of years back and randomly asked some peeps if they were 36CF fans and it was on! They were so amped that someone not from AK knew about them.
nothing but love for these guys
i agree that they have lost some of the originality or its atleast taken a backseat to their metalcore fascination, however “rest inside the flames” and “the tide and its takers” were great albums with solid song structure/ strong metal-expirimetal differences. but the last album was inexcusable they need to refocus on the fact that they only have one guitarist and write with as little “filler” guitar as possible, the ‘tallica 80s melodic intro was nice but the rest of the album fell short good vision but sub par execution lets get crazy on this next one boys.
